EMERSON: THE JOURNEY TO ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
People around the world are taking significant steps to reduce their environmental impact. For
With this new corporate organization, Emerson, involving its ASCO – AVENTICS and TOPWORX brands, achieves environmental, social and governance goals, creating a healthier world and improving working conditions, together.
- Greening of: The way we improve our internal environmental sustainability performance
Emerson is improving its performance of sustainability through evolving internal policies, changing its approach to manufacturing, and redesigning certain aspects of its buildings: it is targeting a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2028, obviously going after energy suppliers, supply chain partners, and logistics services to support similar goals.
Increasingly green facilities
To ensure that the commitment to sustainability touches all the various aspects of the company, Emerson infuses this focus into all management processes, including the facilities themselves. For example, the AVENTICS AF2 flow sensors have been installed on production equipment in some of our plants: in Sissach alone, where there is a plant dedicated to manufacturing Branson products, the 19 AVENTICS AF2 sensors will reduce energy consumption by 20 percent, or $58,000 in compressed air savings and 68,000 kg of reduced carbon emissions over 10 years.
Some of the EMERSON facilities are implementing renewable energy resources: the Mahindra World City plant in Chennai, India, is generating about half of its power from just solar energy.
The Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has recognized the ASCO facility in Florham Park for its sustainability measures and leadership in environmental management.
- Greening with: Is how we promote collaboration among stakeholders through participation and partnership
Promoting stakeholder collaboration can be done in a number of significant ways locally and globally. It means participating in major sustainability industry forums and fairs, working with institutions to promote sustainable innovation, and engaging with governments to support sustainability-related policies and regulations.
One Emerson partnership worth noting is definitely theEuropean Clean Hydrogen Alliance .
ECHA-the European Chemicals Agency-was established in 2020 to accelerate industrial decarbonization in line with the European Union’s climate change goals.

It brings together manufacturers, automation technology providers, public authorities and other stakeholders to support Europe’s clean energy transition. As a member of the EMERSON alliance, it supports hydrogen projects with its innovative technologies and industry expertise, helping to achieve Europe’s goal of zero net carbon emissions by 2050.
We understand what it takes to successfully build the infrastructure and processes needed to make the transition to clean hydrogen, and we support our customers at every stage as they scale up production of clean hydrogen technologies.
ASCO AND TESCOM Solutions for Fluid Control.
Some of these solutions are components TESCOM and ASCO, used for fluid control processes throughout the hydrogen fuel value chain. To keep electrolyzer areas and hydrogen fueling stations safe, quick safety system shut-off valves are essential. The reliability of our TESCOM VA and VG series safety shutoff valves has long been proven in the field, and our ASCO 290 series pressure valves provide hydrogen, oxygen and water shut-off control in electrolysis applications. Designed specifically to maximize fuel efficiency in industrial and commercial hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, the on-board hydrogen regulator TESCOM HV-3500 series fornishes a constant pressure and continuous flow of hydrogen to the fuel cell over the full range of operating conditions, while our proportional valves ASCO 202 series can provide the final control of the hydrogen fuel before it is delivered to the fuel cell.
As we are making the transition to clean energy, it is critical that the pressure and flow control solutions used in electrolyzers, fuel cells found in hydrogen-fueled vehicles, and hydrogen fuel delivery stations are safe, reliable, and efficient.

- Greening by: efforts to decarbonization and environmental sustainability of our customers through the implementation of Emerson products, solutions and expertise.
Through Greening by, EMERSON provides sustainable solutions and shares valuable knowledge that can reliably improve the efficiency of clients’ approach to sustainability by reducing emissions, conserving resources, and supporting the development of sustainable technologies.
The TESCOM valves and regulators, for example, used to reliably control pressure and flow in fuel cells and hydrogen electrolyzers are just a few of the many sustainable technologies that EMERSON has developed specifically to help decarbonize industries.
Another is ultrasonic welding of metals Branson of Emerson. The technology can reliably join thinner, more delicate metals such as advanced materials into hybrid film, making it possible to produce batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems that are smaller, lighter and more energy-dense.
AVENTICS: Optimizing pneumatics
Improving pneumatic efficiency is a key step
A key pneumatic device that our customers use to improve efficiency and energy optimization, as mentioned earlier, is once again the AVENTICS AF2 series flow sensor. Much more than a flow meter, the AF2 has made a significant contribution to helping facilities in a wide range of industries better control air consumption and meet sustainability goals accordingly.
Large-scale consumer goods production depends heavily on pneumatics, so helping corporate customers reduce the amount of energy used to produce compressed air has contributed directly to their sustainability efforts.
In addition to AF2 sensors, the project used an IoT-enabled software architecture, Internet of Things, to accurately monitor compressed air flow in real time to identify leaks, optimize pneumatic processes, and improve airflow efficiency.

The implementation calculates air utilization data with integrated software that displays trends and anomalies on analysis platforms, enabling operators to easily adjust supply pressures and detect leaks.
The system’s integrated connectivity simplifies implementation and provides immediate information at the machine level, with network capabilities that pave the way for monitoring compressed air utilization throughout the enterprise.
Using these advanced sensor and analytics technologies, Emerson has already seen a 15 percent reduction in energy consumption on several packaging lines and expects even greater energy savings as the technology becomes more widely deployed.
Another way Emerson has helped its plants, as in ASCO, AVENTICS or TOPWORX, or manufacturing customers, achieve their sustainability goals is through Branson’s Branson’s ultrasonic welding technologies.
By working with OEMs – original equipment manufacturers – to determine innovative ways of cutting, sealing and joining new biodegradable packaging materials, Branson’s technologies help dramatically reduce waste otherwise destined for combustion or landfill.
Not only reduction in energy consumption for emission reduction
Although reducing energy consumption can go a long way toward reducing emissions, there are other ways as well. Using the TopWorx proximity sensing technology, Emerson’s client manufacturers in the oil and gas industry have a way to remotely monitor their storage tanks to ensure that they are securely closed. The TopWorx GO Switch Model 73 accurately and continuously monitors the position of the hatch in real time, allowing operators to keep it monitored 24 hours a day, as required by regulations.
A mix of operations, described in this article, designed to amplify efforts to reduce the environmental impact of all our manufacturing industries, factories and industrial production buildings of Emerson customers. A strategic plan to support the sustainability efforts of all Emerson’s global manufacturing companies by partnering with local and global organizations to serve the planet.
Allthese efforts toward sustainability Emerson sees as a duty to future generations: the goal is to promote innovation that makes the world healthier, safer, smarter, and above all, more sustainable.
